(April 7, 2022) It is with great sadness the friends of James Lee announce his recent passing from natural causes at his home in Ottawa, Ontario at the age of 61. Until the end of 2021, James had been the National Development Director at United Nations Association in Canada. It was a cause he cared deeply about, and he felt a great deal of pride in being able to ‘do his bit’ to bring more humanity to the world. Although he often laughed about how many jobs he’d worked at as a young man, James found his calling when he began his career in fundraising in 1994. Prior working to with the United Nations Association in Canada, he worked with the Ducks Unlimited, KCI Ketchum Canada, the Canadian Council for Christian and Jews and the Canadian Red Cross. He believed deeply in his work and his friends would often tease him that he looked at the world through ‘rose-coloured glasses’ to which he would reply that it was better than the alternative. James was a champion of the underdog and at his happiest when hosting a party or dinner for his wide circle of friends. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held in Toronto in the coming days. A donation in James’ memory can be made to the Canadian Red Cross Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal.
