(October 26, 2021) If Mazarine Treyz, founder and organizer of the Party at the End of the Patriarchy Conference, could wave a magic wand, she would frame every single charity story we tell as a policy failure, not as a miracle of charity.
Party at the End of the Patriarchy is a three-day conference online conference starting today, October 25, and continuing October 27 and October 29.
You can sign up at any point during the week. The price is great. Register here. Scholarships are available.
“When someone becomes homeless, we have to look upstream. It is the government and community’s responsibility to take care of our most vulnerable folks. Most people who are homeless in the US are children,” Mazarine Treyz says, “When I worked in a domestic violence shelter, we had to turn away 1000 children a year. Many more children are not safe at home because of the pandemic. If we look at the upstream problem, we start to understand the solution is not impossible. We just must take steps together, towards collective action, to get the world we want.”
Treyz also would like to have every single white person “wake up,” work on their emotions, collectively come together and say we need to move beyond this outdated structure, this mode of thinking, this economic system.
“I mean every executive director, every board member, every committee member, and every volunteer agitate for policy change in every province and every state to give charity functions back to the government, uplift racial equity, indigenous land return, mutual aid and solidarity.”
Party at the End of the Patriarchy conference is in full swing online, and features speakers who can help reframe so-called “charity” thinking. The event is a three-day conference online conference starting today, October 25, and continuing October 27 and October 29.
